49ERS SIGN SEVEN ROOKIE FREE AGENTS; ADD ONE VETERAN FREE AGENT

The 49ers announced today that the team has signed seven rookie free agents and one first-year player. San Francisco inked rookie free agents DE Zach Anderson (Louisville), QB Luke Getsy (Akron), TE Zac Herold (Nebraska-Omaha), CB Sammy Joseph (LSU), P Ken Parrish (East Stroudsburg), DE Darius Sanders (Oregon) and WR Dominique Zeigler (Baylor). The team also added first-year PK MacKenzie Hoambrecker (Northern Iowa).


Anderson (6-4, 267), spent his final two seasons at Louisville after transferring from East Mississippi Junior College prior to the 2005 season. As a senior, he played in 11 games with four starts and tallied 30 tackles, four sack, three passes defensed, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery for a touchdown. In his first season at Louisville, Anderson saw action in 11 games with one start and collared 16 tackles, 2.5 sacks and two forced fumbles. A two-year starter at East Mississippi Community College, Anderson
posted 85 tackles and 10 sacks as a freshman followed by 52 tackles and two sacks in 2004.


Getsy (6-2, 222), played his final two seasons with Akron after transferring from the University of Pittsburgh following his sophomore season. He ended his career with the Zips ranking third in school history with 6,117 passing yards despite only playing two years with the team. As a senior, Getsy led the Mid-American Conference with 2,665 passing yards to go along with 18 touchdowns. A year prior, he set a school single-season record with 23 touchdown passes, while also leading his conference in passing with 3,455 yards. Getsy appeared in six games with one start for Pittsburgh
in 2003 before sitting out the following season upon transferring.


Herold (6-5, 253), appeared in 39 games with 32 starts at Nebraska-Omaha and totaled 73 career receptions for 1,048 yards with seven touchdowns. A three-time All-North Central first-team selection, Herold ranked second on the team with 358 receiving yards and 23 catches as a senior. He caught 32 passes for 465 yards and five touchdowns as a junior. Getsy earned a starting role his sophomore season and posted 14 catches for 198 yards and two touchdowns.


Joseph (5-11, 184), spent is final three seasons at LSU after transferring from Colorado prior to the 2004 season. He played in 11 games as a senior, tallying six tackles and one tackle for loss. Joseph saw action in six games for the Tigers as a junior after sitting out the 2004 season upon transferring. As a true freshman at Colorado, he started all 12 games and recorded 55 tackles, two interceptions and five passes defensed.


Parrish (6-1, 215), spent last year out of football after playing four years as the primary punter at East Stroudsburg University. In each of his final two collegiate seasons, Parrish earned first-team All-Northeast Region. He averaged 42.0 yards per punt as a senior, 43.2 yards per punt as a junior, 40.7 yards per punt as a sophomore and 36.7 yards per punt as a freshman.


Sanders (6-5, 269), played four seasons for Oregon on the defensive line, seeing his most extensive action as a senior when he started 11 of 13 games and collared 27 tackles, nine sacks, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. He played in 11 games as a junior and posted 17 tackles and 2.5 sacks. A former high school standout in basketball, Sanders turned to football in college and played sparingly during his first two seasons.


Zeigler (6-2, 181), appeared in 42 career games for Baylor with 30 starts at wide receiver. As a senior, he registered 54 catches for 741 yards and three touchdowns in 11 games after recording 563 yards on 48 catches with five scores a year prior. Zeigler led the team in receiving as a sophomore with 55 catches to go along with 536 receiving yards and five touchdowns. He played in 10 games as a true freshman and caught nine passes for 83 yards.


Hoambrecker (6-1, 190), has attended training camps with the San Diego Chargers and Carolina Panthers since graduating as a first-team All-American from Northern Iowa in 2003. He spent 14 weeks on the Chargers practice squad in 2003 and attended San Diego’s training camp the following season. In 2006, Hoambrecker participated in training camp with the Carolina Panthers.
